Results of the Dekalb County Tax Auction: Tuesday August 4, 2009

Dekalb County conducted their monthly tax auction Tuesday August 4th. The sale commenced on the Dekalb County Courthouse steps approximately 1pm, and resulted in the successful tax auction of nearly 40 properties. There were only 2 or 3 properties that received no bids and were "knocked down to the county".

The auction was well attended, with a significant amount of both bidders and non bidders. The volume of properties this month was somewhat higher than months past, netting Dekalb County nearly $500,000 in unpaid property tax and premiums*(This is the amount of excess funds above and beyond the opening bid*). Winning bids ranged from $1900- over $50,000 per property.

Of note there were several bidders who seemed new to the process. Unfortunately, 3 properties had to be re-bid, after it was determined the winning bidder was not able to pay. Winning bids are required to pay in full by cash or certified funds within 1 hour of the close of the auction. The representatives from Dekalb County conducting the auction did a great job keeping the process moving along, despite the long list of properties, the crowd, and 90 degree heat.
